This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special because they have overcome so many obstacles in life and they keep striving to be the best they can be despite their circumstances. Additionally, Hurricane Harvey contributed to their hardships. Many of them have been uprooted from their homes. I try to provide some stability for them at least at school. No matter what challenges they face, they still come to school with positive attitudes. My students are majority low socioeconomic status, but they work hard to overcome their current status and work toward building a better life for themselves, which begins with an education. My students are the greatest and no one can tell us any different.
My Project
I love teaching but love coaching even more. Getting to build relationships with most of my students through athletics is beyond enjoyable.
As well as giving their all in the classroom we have many students who dedicate their after school time to athletics/sports!
This school year has being trying for many of our students due to Hurricane Harvey; along with losing lots of things in our classroom, our athletes have gone without as well. As we approach this upcoming track season I would like to provide the track team with running shoes to enhance their talents, athletic apparel, and duffle bags to help them keep up with their things on those long Saturdays at track meets.
