Farming for Attention

My students need 30 copies with audiobook of "Animal Farm", by George Orwell, with one teacher's guide.

So little interests my students, and that's the biggest obstacle I find myself facing as a first-year teacher of 8th grade Language Arts at a high-poverty school in rural Florida.

The school district has no money to help fill out our sadly anemic class sets of novels for eighth graders, which is troublesome when I've just discovered that the integration of history and literature is one of the most powerful tools I have in snagging my students' interest.

With a class set of George Orwell's Animal Farm, I believe I could further nurture that interest and also provide ancillary instruction on fables, morals, allegory, etc.--all topics with which my students struggle mightily.

Animal Farm was one of many life-changing novels I encountered as a teenager, and you could make it possible for it to be the first of many for my students.
