Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With our school population of almost 800, 100% of the students are living in apartments. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 85% of our students receiving free lunch. Students have the option to receive free breakfast daily through a program at the school that is open to all students.
Our school has a diverse population of students from various countries who speak a variety of different languages.
Many students will come to our school for the first time and never have learned to speak English.
I have assisted our school in providing a variety of resources such as weekend food bags for students, free eye care and exams, dental screenings, a free food pantry and a clothing closet.
My Project
The garden club is in need of a new wagon, table and aprons for them to sell their harvest after school. Students will be able to sell items to parents and community members after school.
Our school garden is an unique way for students to learn where their food comes from and gives them a hands on opportunity to experience the work that goes into it.
I really want the students to take pride in their garden and want to share what they have learned with their families. The students are all able to bring home some of these vegetables when it is their classes turn to work with our gardener. I hope to bring this project alive with your assistance!
