Help me give my students a chance to become stewards of the Earth. We need an outdoor area, where they can learn to grow their own food, take care of the environment, and become wildlife advocates.
I teach preschool special needs, in a rural area of West Virginia. There is not a lot of money, to go around here. My children have a fenced-in concrete area, with nothing but an old stove to play with outside. I would love to be able to create a wildlife habitat area, community garden, and a farm to table area, for my kids. Not all children are going to grow up and become doctors, lawyers, and policemen. I want my children to learn about other careers, such as park rangers, farmers, and learn to make food that they help produce.
Half of my children come to me with many disabilities in life.
I want to show them that not everyone has to go to college to become successful. I want them to learn how to grow their own food, how to take care of the Earth and make a difference, and to be able to have some opportunities that other children have.
My Project
Our preschool at our school does not have anything but an old kitchen set on our playground. The monies are so limited. My children are preschool special needs; they already have so many disadvantages. I want to teach them that there are other fields they can go into, besides the standard policeman, fireman, and doctor. I want to teach them that they can be park rangers, farmers, protectors of the environment. I want to be able to take them outside and have things to play with, and also help them learn. I want to teach that they can grow their own food.
They can work together as a class to make our community better.
I also want to teach them to be responsible for our world. To help feed the birds, to grow our own food, and share it. Not all children are going to grow up and become doctors and lawyers. I want them to learn to do things with their hands to have dreams of becoming something of their choice. I would appreciate any and I'll help with this because there just simply is, not any money.
