My Students

I have some avid and enthusiastic readers. They particularly love fantasy. I have several students who have never met in person but manage to socialize around the fantasy series "Wings of Fire." Middle Schoolers can be so earnest in their in-between world of childhood and later adolescence. I want to give them quality literature that connects with their personal reading interests to maximize their motivation to read.

My Project

These class sets of novels will serve as the basis of novel units. I have witnessed how much my students love the fantasy genre, and I want to engage readers with great literature that is a little out of the mainstream for middle schoolers.

I selected Watership Down and Wee Free Men, two high-quality, young adult fantasy novels, to match my students' tastes with literature meaty enough to sustain deep exploration.

Enticing students to read ranges in difficulty from student to student but choosing motivating texts goes a long way.
