My Students
Many of my students face challenges at home that could easily pull their focus in the classroom. We have created a space that challenges their learning and meets them at their ability level. Despite the challenges of rigorous curriculum, we learn with laughter and respect.
Our school motto is "students learn in many different ways".
We live and learn in a low income area, but families are incredibly supportive of the different ways we learn. We are supported as we grow our thinking and our students are getting more independent each day. Students are encouraged to take risks and ask hard questions of themselves. They are amazing, create thinkers and problem-solvers.
My Project
Students are incredibly excited for our fantasy unit, but a problem I foresee is my ability to provide my reading clubs with enough titles! These materials will be used to identify theme and compare/contrast said themes or characters across titles. The more titles we have, the better the discussions students will be able to grow.
Readers interest should not be higher than the number of titles we have on our shelves.
Readers should leave the mini lesson eager to join their clubs. Readers should be itching to get home to read just one more chapter or to dive under the covers after bedtime with a flashlight and their book. Our unit has the potential to capture our most reluctant readers.
