My students need flashlights, batteries, and cushions to make literacy fun with Flashlight Fridays.

As a teacher in a low-income school district, I have to be creative in engaging my students in learning. They often have distractions that take their attention away from the important learning we are doing in the classroom. As third graders, my students are in a critical year, with the state requiring all third grade students to pass the state reading test in order to move on to fourth grade.
My students work hard all year to make sure they are meeting grade level standards, despite facing challenges from a variety of sources.
Our school is 100% free lunch, and while we are fortunate to have a school that is equipped with basic technology, my students need many more resources to help them achieve their best.
Due to the specific importance of reading for my third graders I am constantly looking for new, fun ideas to keep my students interested and excited about reading. When I came across the idea for Flashlight Fridays I knew that would be an opportunity to create a fun weekly activity that would have students looking forward to reading.
Elementary students thrive on experiences that are different from the norm, and getting to read books with a flashlight is just the type of break from traditional to get them excited about reading.
I am requesting flashlights and replacement batteries to facilitate what I hope will be one of the highlights of their week. I am also requesting new floor cushions to add to our flexible seating options and bean bag chair refill for our old bean bag chairs to allow students to get cozy within our flexible seating environment for reading.
Thank you in advance for supporting my classroom. Every donation makes an impact on my students and adds to their enjoyment of learning. Not only do my students get excited about new resources, but what is most special for them is that people who do not even know them are willing to make an investment in their education, and that makes them feel special beyond words.
