My students need Touch and Read Phonics Match, Learn the Alphabet mats, and interactive reading journals to continue to develop their phonemic awareness up to grade level.

My students walk into our self-contained Special Education classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited about what is in store for them that day.
I teach at a Title I school in Washington, DC, where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch (and dinner if they are in aftercare).
Many of my students receive 2 bags of food once a month from a local partnership organization and our school also keeps extra uniforms for them, when they are unable to purchase them on their own. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school and they enjoy learning. Many of them want to be teachers when they grow up.
My students are so resilient. They came to my class reading at a pre-school level (meaning they only recognized letters and sounds), and now EVERY STUDENT is able to read and comprehend basic texts spanning kindergarten and first grade! However, we still have more work to do to make sure they continue to develop their reading skills and improve even more.
With your help, these supplemental materials will reinforce and help to integrate the skills my students have further, while they continue to develop new reading skills to make sure they can read and comprehend on grade level and potential above!
The "Touch and Read Phonics Match," is for 3 of my students who are able to segment and blend words, but need the practice with doing so with automaticity. This set will help them practice blending sounds together so that they can do it more effortlessly. The "Learn the Alphabet! Dough Mats" are for three of my students who are still struggling with writing their letters, including their names. My hope is that with working with something more tangible, such as Play Doh, these students will further cement in their minds how letters are formed so they can begin writing more. Lastly, the "Reading Comprehension Interactive Journal" is to assist the students with their comprehension. No matter what level each student is reading at, comprehension is a crucial skill in order to move their reading scores.
With Special Education students, memory retention is a struggle for most of them. These activities will help them to retain more of what they are learning via repetitive practice.
