As all math teachers have found, students always want to know why they need to know the math that they are learning. For this reason, it is my goal that students are able to see the connection between the math that they are learning and their real-life experiences outside of the classroom. I always try to incorporate skills within the curriculum that will help prepare them for the future.
Students always notice and appreciate the organization and structure that I provide in the classroom.
I believe that by being organized myself, I can model essential skills that will help my students become more successful in their other classes and daily lives. In addition, when students can easily access the materials they need, they will be able to focus on the tasks at hand.
Throughout my years teaching, I have seen firsthand how much the availability of technology can improve a students' learning experience. There are so many great resources available to show students why understanding mathematics is relevant to their real-world experiences. This cannot be accomplished without the proper technology in the classroom.
My Project
Over the past few years, I have seen how vital the availability of technology in my classroom has been, in leading my students to mathematics success. Unfortunately, there are not currently enough laptops available in my classroom to provide all of my students with the benefits of this technology. We are only able to use the laptops for academic support. With more laptops available, we could use it as a central part of the lessons.
Having enough laptops would allow the students to work at their own pace.
My students often attend extra help before school and during lunch, and need laptops to practice key skills. In addition, we could more easily use technology during classroom projects. For example, students can access websites that connect the skills they are learning to the real-world, and this can help them become financially literate.
These laptops will further student engagement in my classroom. It will provide a platform for individualized instruction. Lastly, it will help me support struggling students who need to practice mathematical skills.
