Ms. Gervasio from Baltimore MD is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need basic supplies such as glue, erasers, pencils, crayons and scissors.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As students share their illustrations of a story, one student's work stands out among the rest. I asked the student to explain their drawling of a rainbow using very unique colors of brown, blue, purple and black . Upon reply the student stated that they were the only colors left in her school box.
The students in my classroom all come from a high poverty area where the necessities are in short supply.
The charter school in which they attend can only give a limited amount of supplies for each classroom. I cannot ask families for supplies, when they cannot supply other basic needs for their families. Despite the challenges, these students show up each and every day ready to learn and apply their knowledge into their lives. They willing share what little they have with one another in order to correctly complete the task. They are an energetic bunch of children who want nothing more than the chance to explore, learn and grow in each and every way.
As previously stated, our school is located in a high poverty area where students are in a constant flux between living with various family members. By supplying pencils, you will ensure that my students can continue to complete their assignments both in the classroom and at home. They will no longer have to use stubs to write out their math problems or spelling words. Many students cannot follow a worksheets directions to cut and paste pictures or words because they do not have any glue or scissors and the supply has run out. With your donation, these students will be able to be successful in all learning aspects. They will learn to follow directions and develop eye hand coordination. By giving erasers, students no longer have to cross or scratch out their mistakes. They can learn that making a mistake is alright and can be simply fixed. Crayons will add life to education projects such as word sorts, diagrams and writing projects.
Your donation will show my students the generosity that can be found in the world.
My students will in turn be able to take your kindness and use it to propel them towards become productive, educated and successful citizens of this world.
