Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These students in my classroom are hungry for art and education. They are ready to take on a project of any size and scope. The students are from a low economic area and need materials to help them see the potential they have. The students are ready for a challenge in art and education.
The students in this art program are at that point where education is just starting to be the realization as the way out to a better life.
The students have not had the chance to engage in quality materials to bolster there creative juices to see what can be possible. The light bulb is just turning on as they see new types of art and education where they are skilled and have the ability to really succeed.
My Project
The students will learn about different artists in history (Renaissance to Modern times). Then the students will pick one artist from history, and draw the artist with an event from that time period in the background. Then the student will sculpt a portrait bust of the artist, paint it and varnish. The students will be learning about art and history. The students will be connecting time periods with art and be able to use this knowledge toward other classes and experiences. The students will be learning Geography, History, Art and real life experiences while creating.
The students really need these materials as most these students do not have a family life or structure at home to help guide their future.This project can empower students to see what they are capable with their creativity and imagination.
Many students do not know they have the skills to manipulate clay with their hands and create a realistic form. This project will enable the students toward the future and see things in education that they never would have known if it was not for this chance.
