Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love coming to school and they are eager to learn. Unfortunately, many of our families are unable to purchase basic school supplies or take their children outside of our community. Many of my students come from a high risk and low income community. I hope to provide them with the tools, skills, resources, and experiences they will need to be successful. I want to foster a love of learning for my students. I do not want their socioeconomic status to prevent them from exploring, experiencing, and learning.
My Project
Each year our students participate in a Famous American speech contest. Winners compete against students from other schools. Our library is very limited and must be shared among three 5th grade classes. I need these books to give my students access to Famous Americans they will be researching.
Students will use the notebooks for note taking while they research their Famous American.
They will also use the notebooks for the rough and final drafts of their speech. This speech is a project we work on for months and teaches my students about famous people from our nations history and inspires them to achieve great things.
