This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a very special group of children from Baltimore City. I am a special education teacher that has small groups of children rotating in and out of my room every day. Within the school day up to 30 students may have come through my room for instruction from pk to 8th grade. These students work very hard to accomplish their goals and never give up! No matter what challenges arise our students are resilient and push through to be successful students and community members!
My Project
Over the summer our school experienced a devastating flood that damaged many teachers classrooms and materials. I lost a significant amount of materials. Many of which I have been able to replace. My young students enjoy reading, playing games, and accessing instruction as a family group on the carpet. This allows them to move around easily and be in close quarters to myself and their peers. During the flood our carpet got wet and we may not have a carpet for our time together this year. Giving students the opportunity to choose whether they learning sitting down or standing up is an essential part of learning for my students and this requires a rug.
