The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra! - Jimmy Johnson
My students are a great group of second-grade learners from different economic and social backgrounds that love to try new things.
They love reading, exploring, and everything about learning! Because they have a love for learning, I want to do everything in my power to make learning magical for them! I want to provide them with as many extras in their environment. Our classroom won't just be an uncomfortable place where we come to learn, but a place that is safe, secure, and where learning is fun!
The students will get a good book that they can have and share nightly with their family. Everyone can be involved in this book study.
This book will spark many courageous conversations within the family.
The most important lesson is the bonding, love, and respect they will encounter during story time. They might also see the selfish part of the mother not wanting her son to grow up and lack of communication.
"The Giving Tree" will be a class project. We will explore many different view points with explanations to help us understand your reasons for your answer
During this pandemic year people are dealing with many feelings. They can share and discuss the unconditional love this mother has for her son and the tree has for her friend. They can also understand traditions, how things are passed down from one generation to another and how we can be so self centered that we only care about self.
My class will be able to explore the the relationships in this book.
The discussion can be as deep as they'd like it to be as we cross-curriculum into multiple subject.
