Family STEM Student Showcase

My students need STEM kits, modular robotics and tech accessories to build wherever their imagination can take them and be able to host our first ever Family STEM Night “Student STEM Showcase”.

My Students

Active, curious, innovative, and ready to take on a brand new rigorous challenge! Team Infinity is a family of 5th graders learning on a middle school level & working together to BE MORE AWESOME! They are participating in an advanced program focusing on the 4 basic subjects and goals in the areas of creativity, problem-solving, and thinking skills. In order to motivate and encourage my students I am doing whatever I can to enhance their environment with 21st century tools that promote learning and engagement. These students are highly inquisitive and eager to use technology tools to reach their unlimited potential.

My Project

My students will use this project to boost their love of STEM to new leadership heights. During the 2nd semester of the school year, my 5th grade students will choose a passion project related to “cultivating a STEAM mindset” at our school. They will become an expert of their device and create a station for our 1st annual STEM Showcase. Students will use the Chromebook to create a video blog of all of their learning. It will allow them to use Flipgrid to create videos, Seesaw to share with families, and the touch screen to draw prototypes for the 3D printer. The Little Bits kits and Piper Computer focus on reverse engineering where students get to employ the Science and Engineering Practices in real world problem solving.

The kits in this project will engage students in creative problem solving, the engineering design process, and the ultimate goal of teaching, helping kids find their passion, in order to host our very first Family STEM Night!

As we prepare students for jobs that may not currently exist, families need to be well informed as they are an essential part of their child’s future successes. One way this project will directly involve parents will be through the after school demonstrations and the weekend exploration. Families will be invited to visit our classroom every Friday after school starting in January. I want families to get a chance to interact with their kids and be impressed by all they have learned about their devices and tools. I will also allow students to take their materials home for the weekend to give them more time to come up with creative solutions. Sometimes students need extra unrestricted time and a different perspective that their family members will provide.
