Family Reading Night 1

My students need 2 copies each of 21 books, including "Frog and Toad are Friends" and "I Spy Lightning In The Sky".

This project is for all students and parents in grades PreKindergarten through seventh grade. We are an urban school and our population lives mostly in poverty. Approximately 96% of our students qualify for the free lunch program.

Many homes have few or no books for children to read. Many parents do not take their children to the library for lack of transportation. Also, parents may be unsure of how to use books to help their children's literacy development at home.

We will hold our first Family Reading Night. In order to help make this successful, we want to be able to give at least one new book to each student to have for their own. We need good books at every reading level to provide each child with an appropriate book. We also plan to have guest readers, have activities to pair with the books the guest readers read, and generally have a fun night of reading.

You will make it possible for each child to receive a free, good-quality book even if they have no book to swap. This may be the only book the child owns.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
