Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a librarian/technology teacher in a rural part of the state of Washington. Our school has a high migrant population, and all of our students receive free lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and situations, yet each and every day, they come to school with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts. Thank you in advance for helping me instill a love of reading all while preparing my students to be college and career ready in a 21st century world!
My Project
I am asking for materials to make our family nights successful. Many of the items that I have asked for are sustainable; meaning that they can be used at each of our family nights throughout the year. My project has two categories of items. The first thing I am asking for is supplies to prepare food. We have discovered that if we feed families, they are more likely to come to family involvement nights. For this reason I have asked for hot water dispensers, sponges, dish towels and more. The second group of items I have asked for is academic supplies. These will be used for family nights with a focus on reading or math. During these family nights we will be able to give students pencils, crayons, dice, wiki sticks and more to take home with them and continue their learning at home. Lastly, I have asked for items to create photobooths that way our students have memories from these family nights. These pictures will be printed and shared with families after the family night.
We love having parents involved in their child's education.
We also love offering a free activity for our parents and families in the evenings. Our parents have said that they enjoy getting out of the house, having a meal, meeting other parents, getting to know our staff and completing activities with their children.
