Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My mathematicians are the brightest group of learners! Although they struggle to keep up with their classmates in their regular classroom, they are super hard workers, and really love learning! A large population of my students are English language learners and come from other countries, so my biggest struggle is getting them to learn how to use manipulatives. My other groups have some gaps in their learning. In a larger group, they become easily frustrated and begin to lose confidence in themselves. However, in our small group, they thrive and love "getting it." I love seeing the smile on their faces when they realize they've learned a new concept and are excited to show it off!
My Project
Every year, our school hosts a Family Math Night. It is a great opportunity for families to come together in a safe environment, where they can spend quality time together, while learning and playing together. There are a variety of Math games for families with children from grades Pre-k through 5th.
The best part of our Math Night, is that families get to take home a baggy full of materials, prizes, and treats to continue the fun at home.
There's worksheets, dice, playing cards, stickers, pencils, etc. And, what better way to bring families together, than with food! We offer families some yummy treats to enjoy while they are with us.
Unfortunately, all of this adds up. And so, your donation will help us continue to host such a wonderful event here at GAMS.
