My Project

I am the Lead Teacher in a Literacy Lab in rural Maine that serves over 60 K-5 students through Response to Intervention (RTI). Students who have fallen below grade level literacy standards need targeted instruction at school and also positive home support. It's my goal to increase family engagement by hosting a Family Literacy and Game Night. Students will be able to share with their families a tour of our Literacy Lab to shine a light on all the great learning they do at school. They will also be able to play a game together with family and take that game home to play.

By funding this project each Lit Lab student will receive a quality, developmentally appropriate game to foster family engagement at home through fun games that teach literacy skills.

Every lab student works so hard at school to increase their reading skills. We want all students to practice their reading at home to maximize progress. Games are a super sneaky awesome way to practice word recognition and comprehension skills! Playing games is a fun way to build confidence in learners of all ages. Our students thrive when they experience the success of learning through play. It is my hope that each student will bring home a game that they can play with family to build positive home school connections.
