My students need games that will develop critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills. They will be able to learn the games in class and then check-out the games to take home!
I have a unique opportunity to work with every child at the school for 45 minutes each week. Our 500 students benefit from a combination of kinesthetic learning curriculum and innovative programs that include Makerspace challenges that support critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Our school is becoming a partial STEM magnet school for 2017-2018.
We will be welcoming 250 students, primarily from low-income households, into our WPES family. I am excited about working with all the students to continue to build their critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
My Project
My job as a "special area" teacher in B3: Books-Brain-Body, is to encourage students to use critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration to be creative and innovative! We spend time each week working on challenges to develop these 21st Century skills.
I am excited about the opportunity for students to take critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills home to their parents with the supplies from this grant!
I can introduce these games to the students during B3 and then they can teach and share with their family! I will be able to catalog these games in the library management system and students will be able to check them out, just like the books!
Games like "Spot It" and "Set" will help to develop observation and analytical skills. Games like "Blokus" will help to promote spatial awareness and problem-solving. "Engineering Ants" and "Robot Turtles" will help to bring STEM topics to life in a fun and interactive way that students can share with friends and then their families!
