Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is filled with students who have a variety of different needs. Some students have disabilities, some are learning English, some have emotional needs. Some of my students simply need to be challenged. Despite their challenges, they all come to school very eager to learn and bring a lot to the table.

My students don't necessarily have extra materials or resources at home, so they are very appreciative of the ones we have inside the classroom.

This school is in a low-income area, filled with children with many different needs, but seeing them have the opportunity to have these amazing materials from DonorsChoose is truly a blessing! These materials will really help my students explore.

My Project

With COVID-19, our world feels like it was flipped upside down in the matter of days. Changing the way we do education, my students are currently at home learning through packets and virtual learning. We are learning, however, that school is more than just a place where students grow academically.

Schools allow students to socialize, explore their world, and for many, are a place where their basic needs of food, shelter and love continue to be met.This project will give students an abundance of snacks, will aid them in learning and will help them be a kid again.

Chalk can be used as a reinforcer for learning. The crayons and colored pencils will be given along with sight word coloring pages to reinforce sight word recognition. Cross word puzzles with help with spelling. Pencils will help students complete the work they are given. The zip lock bags will tie all of the materials together into a family care package!

The items on this list will be put together as a care package for students and families. My hope is that although we are away from each other, my students will still feel love from their teachers!

With this project, I will create care packages to drop off to students' homes to enable them with success while they are away from the classroom. Care packages will be filled with food, basic supplies such as pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers and items where they can simply act as kids; play dough, chalk, slime, coloring books and cross word puzzles.

If this project is funded, I will also add in books and printable books to the care package to encourage more reading at home. Thank you so much in advance.
