I am a Speech-Language Pathologist. I work with students in grades K-6 who have speech and language impairments that negatively affect their ability to communicate and access the curriculum. All of my students are special and bring something different to the table. Working in a small group gives them less anxiety and gives them a safe space to be themselves as they navigate learning in their own style. I truly love helping students become better communicators and being a small part of their overall success in their academic careers. Every small step is a huge victory and it makes it all worth it!
Help me create a hands-on learning experience for my students and their families! I am running part of a literacy activity event at my school for students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Each family will learn how to practice various literacy skills while playing Jenga! I will be creating Jenga boards that contain pictures of Jenga blocks. On each block will be a specific skill including: letter identification, letter-sound identification, CVC words, Sight words, rhyming, Phrase reading, and more! For example, the block outlines on the sight word board will each contain a sight word. When the student pulls out a Jenga block on their turn they will then place it onto one of the block outlines on their board. They will practice reading the sight word. Play continues until all block outlines have been covered. Each family and their child will review all of the skills on the Jenga boards created and will be able to practice playing the game with me as practice. I would like for each family to be able to take home a Jenga game with all of the boards so they will have a completed, and ready-to-go activity to play and use with their child at home. Parents play such an important role in their child's learning and being able to show them how to work with their child at home is so important. Providing each family with an activity that they can use on a regular basis will greatly benefit their student's learning and progress in a fun and engaging way!
