This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach science to 60 fourth graders in an urban district. We will be learning about how the autumn season is necessary for various crops such as pumpkins and apples. I would like students to observe an actual farm because many of my students have never been to a farm. We will begin our unit by doing research on Autumn, pumpkins, and apples. Students will then go to the farm and observe how pumpkins and apples are harvested during the autumn season. Each student will receive a pumpkin and gourd. We will weigh the pumpkins, compare the weights of the pumpkins, clean the seeds out of the pumpkins, and create designs on the pumpkins for students to take home. This will give students a real world experience relating to their learning.
