Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area. Many students are English Language Learners and need experience with language. They may not have many opportunities at home after school or on weekends to practice their English skills.
All of the students at the school qualify for free lunches.
Many come to school hungry and tired because their families are concerned with affording day to day necessities. The school is a safe haven for many students. They need to create good working habits in order to succeed in the future!
My Project
What better way to learn how to solve problems than to use fairytale situations with young learners. My kindergarteners need more experiences in solving problems for themselves. Using fairytales to gain this experience will engage them in activities they might not want to do.
It's fun to read your favorite fairytales!
They can use the books to listen to and follow the story, the puppets to retell the story and identify the problem, and the hands on activities to problem solve using the story as context. Students learn best by doing and that is the experience these items give students!
