My students need 50 blank hard cover books, Wite-Out, pencils, and pens to publish original fairy tales, as well as 6 fairy tale books to draw inspiration from.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Hello! I am a first grade teacher at an inner city school in Maryland. My school is a Title One school where the majority of my students currently live in poverty. There are 18 hard-working students in my classroom.
Our school year is beginning to come to an end and I would like to conclude the year with a fun culminating activity. Last year I taught a fairy tale unit to end the year and had an amazing response from my students. I would like to complete the same unit this year. My fairy tale unit will incorporate reading, writing, math, and social studies. We will read several different fairy tales working on several different skills such as summarizing, comparing and contrasting, and identifying character traits. We will also graph our favorite stories and write fairy tales as a whole group and individually.
The problem I am facing is that I do not have all of the materials I need to complete the unit the way I desire. The main part of the unit is the students original fairy tale writing. I am asking for 20 blank hardcover books so that my students can create something they can keep forever instead of the normal writings we complete on paper that often gets ripped before it even gets home. I am also asking for pens because I would like my students to write with them for their published copy and white out to fix any errors that may occur while they use them.
In addition to the writing materials I am also asking for 6 fairy tale books for my students to draw inspiration from. We will examine the story elements as well as focus on comprehension skills. I am requesting some stories that are not as common that lend themselves to comparing and contrasting such as Cinder Edna, The Three Wolves and The Big Bad Pig, and Rapunzel set in Africa.
By making a donation to this project you will be giving my students materials that will be used for countless lessons in all subject areas as well as providing them with a very exciting culminating activity. First Graders love fairy tales and what better way could I end their year than by participating in activities that they will truly enjoy and learn so much from.
