Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious seven-year-olds who come to school to make friends, learn, and have fun! They are English Language Learners who attend a Title I school in which over 75% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. They are not only learning how to read, write, regroup, and count money, but they are also learning how to become good citizens and be part of a global community. They are natural leaders who only need opportunities to be successful!
My students look forward to coming to school and having hands-on experiences!
They love to explore Science, Technology, the Arts, and STEAM projects.
My Project
My students will use these materials to dive into a unit in fairy tales. First, we will read fairy tales and chart the lessons that they teach us. Then they will use the iPad mini and the pic-collage app to create posters based on the fairy tales that teach these lessons. They will also compare different versions of Red Riding Hood and then create their own version of the story in what is called a fractured fairy tale. They will use the short plays for reader's theater. We will film their performances using the iPad and use technology to put them into iMovie for Open House. This project incorporates reading, writing, technology, and theater. It will keep my students engaged and practicing their reading fluency skills.
