Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my proposal! I teach 2nd grade at a Title 1 school where approximately 60% of it's students receive free or reduced lunches. Our school is also made up of approximately 43% Hispanic students and we are an Alabama Reading Initiative School.
One of my favorite subjects to teach is Reading. Teaching Reading is so important because it is one of the most important skills needed to be successful in life. It's not only important to me to teach my students how to read and to become better readers, but for them to have a love for reading and that they will enjoy reading for pleasure for a lifetime. My students love to read non-fiction books. They love to read about 'real' things like animals, outer space, dinosaurs, etc. I want my students to have a selection of books to choose from that cover topics such as these.
I am asking for books by the author Gail Gibbons. She writes so wonderfully that children are interested in what they are reading about. She writes these non-fiction books so that children can understand what they are reading instead of becoming frustrated because they can't remember what they have read about. Her books have awesome colorful pictures and provide a wealth of information with tons of facts on all kinds of topics. I know my students would love to have these books available in our classroom library.
Your support would provide my students with a much better selection of books to choose from in our classroom library. Not only my students this year would be able to use these resources, but all of my students in classes for years to come. Again, thank you for taking the time to look at my proposal and your support for education is truly appreciated.
