My students need multiplication and division repetitive fluency practice. iPads, headphones, and laminated flashcards will provided an opportunity for quick individualized practice.
The students I have the privilege of working with have various learning disabilities. Our classroom is a Co-Taught classroom with a General Education Teacher, Special Education teacher and teaching assistants. We have 32 students with learning needs that vary greatly. Our school is 100 years old! It is in a small village community. Our students arrive every day eager to learn and explore the journey of knowledge.
While our school community is small, the diverse backgrounds of our learning students is large!
My Project
Having this set of iPads will allow for different structures of learning in our classroom. These ipads will be used by struggling students to practice multiplication & division standards. Our learning standards in 6th grade require a solid, fluid, automatic recall of multiplication and division facts. Students could collaborate and help each other create word problems once facts are mastered. I could download apps for various math practice skills for a math center, which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students.
My project will make a difference because, as I said before, these students are the digital natives.
Tapping into their digital knowledge with help to motivate their learning.
Our classrooms are not yet at the level technologically to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap just a little bit more.
