This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Help future engineers, doctors, teachers, scientists, and leaders be inspired! I am lucky enough to teach a high performing group of students who are anxious to learn. I teach fifth grade in a public magnet school for gifted children. My students come from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds. They are all working above grade level and require a vigorous, challenging education.
Here is the challenge in making sure these children get a top notch education. In order for my students to be able to investigate and explore in multiple fields such as history and science, they need to use computers on a daily basis. We only have two computers for 25 students. The children are continuously completing projects and research where their work needs to be saved for a later time. With such limited resources it is hard for them to be able to continue working on their projects without having to print all of their work out before it is finished. My students often go to other classrooms to work on assignments and have to either bring all of their printed projects with them or start all over.
In order to help the environment by saving paper and ink as well as allow these wonderful minds to continue their world changing research, my students would greatly benefit from a class set of flash drives so that they can save their work. The 2 GB will be plenty of memory for several students to save anything from novels to power point presentations. These flash drives will also allow them to retrieve their work on different computers around the school.

This will allow my students to push their creativity and intelligence to the next level by being able to save their ongoing work using removable flash drives.
