Face To Face Learning
My students need a webcam and a sound system to use with Facetime and Skype so that they can access distant learning from our regular high school.
Help students with disabilities take their learning to another level with the right technology to access Facetime and Skype. They need a webcam and a sound system to make the connection.
The students we serve have various disabilities.
They range from the age of 14 to 21. We are in a low economic area in a school that serves at risk students in rural Idaho. Our program focus is on life skills and vocational training. Many of the students have limited language skills and some are non-verbal. Technology is a key element in their learning process.
Having access to a webcam and a sound system will make it possible for the students in the program to access learning activities from a distance. The activities will not be possible due to the limited funding. They can take digital field trips to classrooms around the world. They will be able to access teachers who have a wealth of knowledge in many disciplines. This technology will open the world to these students. The only limitation they have now is that they do not have a webcam or sound to their classroom. They can take visit with other students around the world and learn about cultures beyond their small rural community.
For me as a teacher I want my students to be able to reach for the stars.
If my students are given the right tools the sky is the limit for their learning. I don't want the lack of funding to block them from learning opportunities that will enrich their lives for many years to come. Experiences that will be afforded by the webcam technology and sound system will enable these students who may never leave their community to travel the world via the internet and through technology.
