Fabulous Phonics for Beginning Readers

My Students

We are in a small, rural community in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. We are an entirely free lunch school and many of our students rely on us for both breakfast and lunch.

Many students are not provided with life experiences many of us see as typical and we try to fill those gaps as much as possible.

They like to move and explore the world around them. I am looking to provide my students with a creative and meaningful learning experience. I try to focus on their growth potential and encourage them to have a growth mindset. By doing this, I hope to inspire our earliest learners to love education and learning.

My Project

Many of my students are just learning to decode words and make the sound symbol connection. I need many books with a variety of skills to meet their diverse needs. Reading is a skill used in every branch of learning.

Being successful in Math, Science, Social Studies, et al requires a strong foundation in reading.

These books will help them become stronger, faster, more fluent readers. Just like building a strong foundation for a house makes the house stronger, by building a strong foundation of phonics skills they can more easily figure out harder and harder words.

I also hope by giving them a strong foundation in reading and reading skills that they will develop a life long love of learning and reading!
