I have 19 students in my classroom that all love music.
As educators, we want to appropriately challenge each student—encouraging higher-order thinking while meeting state standards; Music is one tool to engage each student and provide a pathway for connections and deeper understanding.- Maria Alegria, Edutopia
There is a lot of research that shows that learning content through music helps it "stick." I have seen this firsthand and use music frequently in my classrooms. My students this year are very much into music and love to sing.
My Project
My students LOVE music! They are always singing, making up songs, and wanting to dance.
We currently use music on a daily basis to practice everything from math facts to science topics like energy to vocabulary.
I've used the free trials of Flocabulary as well as a subscription I've paid for out of pocket and it is hands down one of my favorite educational resources because it keeps my students excited about learning.
Some activities we will do with our subscription is boost our vocabulary knowledge by using the grade level specific vocabulary videos along with a fun online game to ensure students remember the words. Because Flocabulary also gives instructional resources to go along with the videos we will also have the options of doing crosswords, creating our own vocabulary words for the word wall along with many other activities. We will also use the videos to help us remember our math facts and specific math vocabulary since Flocabulary has videos to help students master multiplication and division facts and many other math concepts. Each week there is also an age appropriate "in the news" rap that help students learn about current events. I would love to end each week by showing this video and having a discussion on current events with my students.
