Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom everyday full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best first grade class in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title One school in Florida where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend and our school also runs a food pantry for our families.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
My students work so hard all week to earn Fun Friday Afternoon. They have to work hard and have great behavior and good grades to earn the Fun Friday stations. I have seen a huge increase in good behaviors and grades since I started implementing this. My students will learn teamwork by playing the games like Cooties and Don't Spill the Bean. They love to get in groups and socialize and be creative, so I am also looking to add some play dough and art projects as well. We are also allowed twenty minutes of indoor recess this year, so I am hoping to bring back the joys of board games and puzzles to the classroom, I am looking to teach them that through hard work, they are rewarded.
