My Students
My new class of fabulous 4th graders consists of enthusiastic and inquisitive students. Most of them are from our local school community and some even have parents who were once students in our school. Remarkably, I have one student this year whose mother was my 4th and 5th grade student more than 20 years ago.
Providing more engaging technology for my students will facilitate better communication, collaboration, creativity, and allow them to compete successfully in school and careers.
My students are primarily African-American, Latinx, and African. I hope to provide more enriched and culturally relevant materials to help them to see themselves represented in all areas of the curriculum. I also hope to make learning more engaging and sustaining for them by enhancing our technology and seating options.
My Project
We use iPads and Chromebooks almost every day of the school year. They are most engaged in learning when using technology. Last year, we had limited mobility and flexibility with our technology and seating. My students have a comfortable library area but not enough seating options for more than 10 students.
I would like to provide more flexible seating options and a reliable document camera for them to be fully engaged in learning.
We will pursue passion projects and project-based learning units related to STEAM and Student Activism. The document camera and speakers will provide students better access to lessons, make it easier to share and collaborate, and give them an opportunity to demonstrate concepts and skills for their peers and for me.
My students will have flexible seating options to do their independent reading, group activities, collaboration stations, and projects. With close to 25 students, heavy metal chairs and cumbersome desks, being able to move around the room and get comfortable will enhance learning and minimize fatigue and distractions.
