Fabulous First Graders Desperately Seeking Listening Center!
My students need a listening center in order to build sight vocabulary and listening skills. It will foster independence and an exposure to a variety of story structures.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Open our ears! A listening center can open a whole new world to children, and those who become good readers will have limitless possibilities for their future.
My students are from low income families that speak little or no english.
They aren't blessed with a lot and as a result don't get to read at home as often as they should. With a lack of books or a lack of parental time to read to them; they LOVE the time we spend reading in class!! Students learn language by listening, but unfortunately my class does not have a listening center. By having a listening center my students will have the opportunity to increase their fluency rate, their desire to read, and practice their own reading skills. In addition, it will inspire their ability to imagine. A listening center would certainly help keep my students excited about reading and at the same time expose them to the joy of hearing good literature!
My Project
Due to budget cuts my school is not able to buy supplies that would benefit my students. My class desperately needs a compact disc player, headphones, and sets of multiple books to listen to. Their success is very important to me and I would like the opportunity to take them as far as I can.
This project will bring smiles to their face and could be a turning point for many students.
Listening to English and matching it to printed pages will help my students learn more English. A listening center would be a fantastic way for my students to experience books. Furthermore, their enthusiasm will continue to grow as they learn to use the center by themselves! I would be very grateful to those who help my students become enthusiastic readers with a listening center.
