This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students need a plethora of nonfiction books to read.
I teach a phenomenal, diverse group of fifth graders.
I teach in a public, Title 1 school in Tennessee. Since we are also an optional school, I have students in my class reading from second grade level all the way up to ninth grade. My students are eager to learn, and they look reading.
My Project
I have selected several multi-leveled nonfiction books. My classroom library is full of the the most popular fiction books available, and my students even comment on the quality of my library. The percentage of nonfiction books, however, is far below what it needs to be. By providing my students with these books, we can have hands-on experience with nonfiction book projects, as well as becoming more familiar with text features and text structure. Providing my class with these books boost their chances of be successful with the new Common Core rigor that is now upon us.
Please help fund my project.
I put all of my resources to great use, and my students would gain so much knowledge from having these selections. The difference it would make is more than you could ever imagine.
