My Students

History can be so boring if all you read is the textbook! There are so many online encyclopedias, historical websites, maps, games, and apps that students can engage in to bring U.S. history to life. With the new knowledge the students gain, they can create written and visual products on the laptop.

My fifth grade students are a group of funny, loving, excited, inquisitive kids that are eager to learn.

They are at the age where they want to do more independent learning about research topics that tantalize their curiosities. Laptops are motivating and engaging, which is perfect for my budding researchers. We attend a K-5 elementary school with a wide range of ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds.

My Project

We are requesting one laptop. This laptop will be used daily in our classroom for my students to do independent research about historical figures, play games about U.S. geography, and look up interesting facts and pictures about historical events. With the information they learn, my students will be able to create written reports and visual products about history. Not only can we use it for history, but we can use the laptop for our writer's workshop. When students are done with their work, they can type up their final pieces in a more professional manner.

This project will not only familiarize my students with technology, but they will be able to learn while having fun.

They will be engaged and excited to learn in a nontraditional way. With the laptop, numerous students will be able to use it each day, and it will be used for many years into the future.
