Mrs. Cassell-Schwenk from Holyoke MA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need leveled text and science notebook in order to improve fluency and comprehension and the Scholastic News to investigate science through literature.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Students enter my class and have a "Do Now Activity" that is considered a warm-up. After correcting the warm- up, I begin to ask higher level thinking questions that get the students to think, apply what they have learned previously, and respond. Students use a leveled interactive notebook.
My students are primarily Hispanic who live in an urban environment and are subjected to hardships surrounding them.
They strive when given positive reinforcement and excel when someone believes in them. The school is a full-service community school that provides services to address the needs of student learners and build relationships between the school, families, and community.
The Scholastic News, science warm-up activities and other materials I have requested will be integrated cross curriculum in order for students to improve on reading comprehension, fluency, and the English language while using a variety of resources to promote interest. During the course of the year, students will be able to engage with hands-on activities, use higher level thinking, and incorporate creativity using interactive notebooks. Students will be able to apply what they have learned to assessments and labs and increase their science standard goals to meet the common core.
By utilizing the materials and showing the female population of my classes that science is fun and interesting I believe it will change the way females view science.
Science no longer will be challenging but rewarding to them. My hope is to promote the science curriculum in order for females to think about their future in the fields of sciences.
