Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I public charter school in Nevada. A high percentage of the students come from bilingual homes and receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students face tough obstacles in their lives, but they come to school ready and eager to learn. Our school truly is a community – a family. Students, teachers, and parents work side-by-side with one mission in mind: academic achievement. Each classroom in our school has the students' college graduation date written on the board. We currently have pennants from 15 different colleges. We are college-bound! We are the class of 2032!
My Project
The ETA hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit will help students develop a solid foundation in numeracy through the use of visual models and manipulatives. Students need to develop number sense - not just rote memorization of the basic facts - before they can move onto more complex concepts with understanding.
Daily Math Fluency Kits use 16 different strategies to help students develop number sense and the ability to work with numbers flexibly and fluently.
These kits with be utilized in small groups during our math group rotations. Daily Math Fluency kits are a perfect fit to give my students the individualized instruction that is needed to help them be successful in mathematics.
