Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so excited to embark on a new journey this upcoming year! This year, I will be teaching Kindergarten. My children just love learning and going to school. If you were to ask my students what their favorite subject is you would get a wide range of answers ranging from math, reading, social studies, science, and art. One thing I will say is they ALL love learning to read and doing our hands on math.
Our school is very small but diverse.
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school. Many of my children are English Language Learners and are Limited English Proficient. It is also very different from most schools because we also have 5 Special Day Classes. This allows my children to have a wonderful experience of becoming friends with children with special needs.
My Project
Reading is a basic and essential life skill that is made extremely important to build a life long learner. When it comes to reading, one of the best ways to learn and improve is through exposure to many, many books.
My goal is to build a huge classroom library of high quality literature, including the Curious George series and Clifford books, in order to help my student learn to read, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
By building these important skills and improving their reading abilities now, it will be a launching point for them to insure a successful future as they move forward in school and eventually into the working world as productive adults.
The Flex-Space Student Storage Bins will provide organization and stability for our books. I will be able to work with students in their small groups during our literacy block with easy access to the books we need for the Common Core standards that we began implementing this school year. My students will have greater access to books that will enrich, educate, and inspire them.
Through the use of an exciting and welcoming classroom library right at their fingertips every day, the sky is the limit for my students!
