My students need 30 copies of "Fables", by Arnold Lobel.

I am a second grade teacher at an equity plus school. My teammates and I have revised the way we teach literature and reading to our students. We take a different genre of literature each month and apply different reading strategies with them. We are trying to get class sets of books/genres in order to provide meaningful teacher directed reading for our students. We have no class sets of fables that are provided through the school. We may have four to six copies of one title but when you have up to 70 students working on the same genre it is hard to share this small amount. I have found through Barnes and Noble a book including a collection of 20 fables that will provide useful teaching of this genre to my students. My class would not be the only one using this resource. If you were to fund this proposal you would be helping a total of 70 different students reach an understanding of fables. The books will be rotated throughout the second grade at my school and each child would get to experience a better understanding of the author's purpose within fables. Fables teach valuable morals that are learned within them. We are hoping through the use the class sets of fables we will be able to incorporate graphic organizers to help illustrate and compare and contrast each fable to allow our students to understand the author's purpose in order to relate it to real-life experiences. What better way to teach this than to look at a collection of fables? Thank you for your consideration in funding this proposal.
