My Special Education classroom is located in a small district within the Southern Tier of New York. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, in terms of demographics, socioeconomic status, ability, and motivation. Each student has specific and unique needs, and I have been trying my best to meet each need to help them succeed in the classroom.
My Special Education classroom is composed of fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, all with varying academic abilities.
Within my classroom, I am solely responsible for covering all curriculum materials. Many of my students spend their entire academic day with me, leaving only for special classes like the arts or physical education. Each student needs the curriculum modified and adapted in order to be successful. With the proper support my students will continue to grow throughout the school year as they prepare for the future.
Here is where you come in. In order for my students to be most successful, I want to begin creating more hands-on activities to fit their various needs. It is my hope that you can help my students succeed! I have many unique individuals that I hope to make a difference in their lives.
My Project
STEAM activities provide the opportunity for students to be creative while incorporating various subjects. Many learn best from hands on activities. STEAM challenges will allow students in grades fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade to work together and incorporate what they have learned all year. STEAM allows for hand-on activities that combine science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Legos, STEM challenge kits, magnets, marbles, various art supplies, and storage containers will allow my students to work cooperatively while being challenged during hands on activities.
It is my hope, that with the help of these requested materials, we can increase our love for science, increase collaboration, and problem solving skills in our classroom. These various activities will allow students to make real-world connections. Through various STEAM activities, students will expand their knowledge while getting to be creative. My students will love to be challenged while also getting to be creative.
