Dump to Outdoor Classroom Dynasty. Each day my students look out the window at the potential for a wonderland of learning. Instead they face a forgotten area which makes them question the worthiness of their education. By remaking this area for them, the adventure of learning will restored.
We are a small rural school in Missouri with a struggling economy.
Many of our parents work extra hours and our students are left home with limited experiences. They need opportunities to experience outdoor learning and even agriculture based education which will enable them to fully understand the community in which they live.
My Project
I would like to transform the courtyard into a space where students can learn about the effects of erosion, explore an archaeological dig and rock collection, and grow plants representative of our area's natural resources and other compatible regions. I would like to further develop this area with mini habitats where students can observe ecological benefits in a hands on fashion. At the same time I also envision this area as a place students can go to distress and relax with a good book.
We have a supportive community but few large industries, and without corporate support our school resources are limited.
Any help toward this project would be greatly appreciated and could open our students eyes to a world outside our area. Hopefully your generosity will inspire my students to one day "pay it forward".
