This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a school in an urban area, where 97% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them struggle academically and lack the ability to be self-motivated and focus to do their best. I intend on creating avenues to bridge the gap of learning for them in both the inclusion setting and my resource setting.
Many of the students that I service need extra resources, modifications, accommodations and teacher support to assist in their diverse everyday learning.
They all learn at different rates and have various learning styles. My students suffer with minor to severe disabilities which makes it challenging for them to feel successful in school.
Although my students have daily struggles to learn that are beyond their control, they try their best to make me proud. It is a good feeling to know that they are not only working hard to make their parents proud but to also make me proud as their teacher. They are the reason that I work overtime to make sure that I am always prepared with lesson plans tailored to their learning styles.
My Project
I would like to promote more listening activities and speech to text capabilities during this time of distance learning. Right now, the majority of my students rely on online books as their reading materials. I would LOVE to give each of my students their own set of headphones and highlighters to annotate literature.
This book about diversity, sanitizer and headphones would be utilized during our hybrid class lessons for speech to text with no worries of germs or background noise that would create technical difficulty.
I know my students will love these new additions to our class and distance learning Google meetings. This project will give them the right tools to focus better and neatly store their new books and headphones in our hybrid learning atmosphere. I also hope this will entice them to want to practice more!
