This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty area, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Every child in our school receives free or reduced lunch, and a large percentage of students are considered homeless. Despite this, my students are excited to be part of a learning community where they feel safe and cared for.
Our classroom is an area where students are encouraged to work hard, collaborate with one another, and communicate clearly.
I encourage learning through exploration and value the intrinsic curiosity of my students.
My Project
Please help create a supply of extra pants, shorts, and shirts in my classroom for those inevitable kindergarten moments. This extra clothing will keep the embarrassment low and the learning moving as my students can quickly shake it off any accidents and get back to work!
My scholars often only have one uniform they wear every day, sometimes on the weekends as well.
I want to create safe space where students don't have to worry about going without; where they feel protected, respected, and provided for. These pants, shorts, and shirts will show my scholars they are cared for and supported in every way. All they need to focus on is working hard, growing, and reaching their big kindergarten goals.
These clothes will go directly to students who are homeless. Many students in our school are homeless, and many parents cannot afford to provide students with additional clothing.
