This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher in a low-income community. My students face challenges every day that many other children do not face. They have challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Several of them consider our school/classroom as a safe haven for them.
My students are amazing young people who are always ready to learn despite their specific challenges.
The majority of them qualify for free breakfasts and lunches and come from single parent homes and/or foster homes. Due to their socioeconomic status, many of them do not get to experience activities that the average child might experience. I feel that it is my job as a teacher to introduce them to as many opportunities as possible within my classroom. I am hoping to inspire as many students as possible to believe they can achieve anything through their academics.
My Project
My school district has decided to implement full remote learning for the first 10 weeks of school. This type of learning is the safest, but the most difficult for teachers and students.
My students need help with connecting to the world around them.
Junior Scholastic has been a part of my curriculum for several years. The students enjoy the magazines with the great stories, debates and interesting information. Junior Scholastic will be used as an online tool at home to engage them in learning about current events around the world.
