Do you remember what it was like to love books and read them everywhere? Imagine not being able to have books with you all the time. I have hooked my first graders on reading, now we need your help to bait the hook with books!
My students are absolutely amazing 6 and 7 year-old children.
They are in first grade at a high needs school in an Urban setting. They have extremely tough lives and love coming to school because it is a safe environment. They are very enthusiastic about school and learning. They understand how much I love them, and they know I would do anything to make them happy. Setting up such a nurturing and safe environment has allowed my students to blossom into intelligent, polite, thankful children. Every day they amaze me with how much they learn and how much they have to give.
My Project
Franklin and Poppleton are my class's favorite characters to read about. The books are funny, entertaining, and able to be read independently. I have introduced my single copies of two books from each series to the class and they instantly fell in love. At reading time the children always fight over who gets to look at the only copies. Every afternoon they ask me if they can bring one of the Franklin or Poppleton books home. Having the series in my classroom, with multiple copies, will allow the children to get to read and learn. Having 4 copies of each will also enable me to do guided reading and group reading to help instruct and enrich learning. Children will also be able to bring them to and from school in their book baggy. If they have their own copy at home they can find a quiet spot and read to get away from unpleasant situations. I know they would absolutely love this.
Please, please help motivate and make a difference in my students' learning.
I have shown my students how important reading is. I have made them absolutely love to read. I also have made them excited about these particular books. Please keep the flame burning by helping support us with new books before the flame goes out.
