This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In this small, rural town our mission is "High Tech, High Expectations: Committed to Excellence for All Students!" When you serve students in a high need, high poverty area with over ninety percent students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, every advantage has the potential to be life-changing. No matter what challenges our students may face in life, they come to school ready to learn and eager to explore.
If there is one lesson that I have learned, it is not to place my own limitations on my students.
I know that my students are always ready to take their learning to the next level. They are independent thinkers who are fearless when it comes to new experiences. They will try anything, and that is what will allow them to be successful, whether it is in college, a chosen profession, or life in general.
My Project
My class was fortunate enough to receive backpacks from the Burlington Backpack initiative. But, now I have a new student! Extra backpacks will help our new students stay organized and prepared throughout the year. In our "Genius Bar" we are 'Wild About Our Genius' and adding uniform backpacks to our mission would make everyone feel a part of the team.
In first grade, organization is key to student success.
With brand new backpacks, students will have a secure place to store school supplies. They will be able to take materials home knowing that they will stay in this essential storage space. Everyone needs to feel included and important in our classroom. And what better way to be smart and organized than with a brand new backpack?
