Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want my students to become life-long readers. To do this, I provide them with a variety of books that help them discover this love for literature. These students read all year long and take tests that check for understanding. In their discovery of new things, the students learn that books cover a lot of subjects.

My students are kids that thrive in a low socioeconomic area that feeds into our school.

They are amazing kids that are at various levels with many different abilities. I have students that often read chapter books, yet I also have struggling readers that need reading materials at their level but need to include topics that this age group would want to read about.

My Project

My students need over 20 new books, such as A Butterfly Grows, Even Steven and Odd Todd and 100 Years Ago to engage them more. My students will be reading books all year long. In order to feed their needs and provide the best materials to help them become life-long readers, our classroom library needs an infusion of engaging, content based reading books at various levels for my diverse students. These books will be used not only to boost their love for literature, but also to help their reading comprehension and reading fluency skills. In truth, some students read constantly and they need a large variety of books so that they can continue to read books that they find interesting. By donating to my project, you are feeding this need for reading that my students have developed and sparked a new love for those that are budding readers.

Without question, my students would benefit from new genres, new titles, and new authors in their classroom library.

As I mentioned before, for those that do not have a love for reading yet, I hope this will get them into that mindset. It is my deepest wish that they learn to see that reading is not a chore but a way to embark on new journeys that will lead them to successful futures.
