First Grade Rocks! This is my class's daily chant before we start our morning meeting. My students come from a variety of backgrounds ranging from poverty-stricken to completely homeless, with 100% of the school receiving free and reduced lunches. My class is extremely diverse in their cultural backgrounds as well as in their varying academic levels. Our students struggle to make adequate growth each year and we try our very best to catch them up and highlight their strengths.
This year, the teachers in my school were lucky enough to receive $100 each to use for supplies and resources for our classrooms.
This is absolutely not enough funding for us to be able to provide the most appropriate, yet challenging, education that our students so desperately deserve.
Most of my kids come from unsafe areas and broken homes with very little parental support. I call them "my kids" because when they come to my class each day, they know they each have a special place in my heart. I am their source of consistent love and support. I provide my kids with a safe and welcoming learning environment that has high learning expectations as well as lots of fun!!
The iPad and headphones will allow my students to have frequent access to the most up to date technological devices. Our school does not provide our students with enough access to technology. This year, I have been incorporating STEM into our Math and Science centers, and the use of iPads and headphones will be an awesome way to continue giving my students more rigorous STEM opportunities.
Having access to "one to one" technology opportunities within our classroom will provide my students with an additional support.
I will be able to use the iPad for small group learning that supports my students' individualized academic and social emotional needs.
